To create a website, first you need is a domain name - it is like yahoo.com or youname.com. For this you have to go to a registrar to get the domain name registered. According to me the best registrar is godaddy.com (only $9 per year).





Once you have the domain name registered, you need some space in a web server to host your webpages. For that you need hosting provider.





Web design is done in HTML and CSS. You need to know that to get started on that. Some image editing also will be useful. A Content Management System (CMS) like Joomla or typo3 may be helpful in organizing the content. If you need to do web programming (for creating dynamic pages) you need to learn a popular web programming lanuguage like PHP or Perl. PHP is the most used language. Java is a little bit heavy-weight and is appropriate for enterprise class websites.
