Do people use free web hosting (websites) for file storage? How to do this?

When different websites offer free website hosting and give you a certain amount of space, i was just wondering if people (i kind of know the answer= yes i think) use it for personal use of just storing files?

And if so, how can you do this so it is most like a hard drive where i can save files there and use them? Does FTP make the most sense?

Oh yeah a lot of people use free web hosting to backup their files, I am one of them so in case if something happens to my computer or something, ill have all my stuff backed up, or let's say you are on vacation or you went somewhere and you want to access some of your files, you can just get your files from the Internet, I use http://www.divshare.com/

some hosts allow file-dumping (backup of non-related content) while others dont allow it and will disable your account for violating that rule.

Check out this host for online backup, though I would check and make sure it is okay:

For backup I use external hard drives, they are cheap and you can set them up so its automatic. For pictures I use DVDs.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
Reply:if you need a big space to store file you should go for free file hosting instead of free hosting. free hosting usually for making free website and they have limit on the size of file to store. so not a good choice for hosting a file. to use free file hosting service you don't need a FTP program. sign up for free account and then you can manage and uploading your file from their control panel. if you need the top free file hosting sites go to my site and check out directory section. hope that helps a bit.
Reply:I have used several of their programs, most have rocked, some didnt -- so overall, I say that they are safe to do business with and have good programs.
