I'm looking for an online tool where i can enter a domain name or IP address and have it come back and tell me who the web host is.
How can I find the name of the web hosting provider of a domain name (or IP address)?
You can plug the IP address at GeekTools or GeoBytes

www.whois.net will tell you the owner of the site and should give you the DNS servers which are the hosting company.
good luck
Reply:You can search IP Addresses at the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) at www.arin.net.
Further infomation as well as links to other Registries outside the ARIN coverage are can be found by searching I.P. Addresses on Wikipedia.
Reply:The answers already given provide resources to find out about the registered owner of a website and maybe the DNS servers, but if what you really want is info about the Web Host then you should check out Netcraft
http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph
This will give you tons of info including the site's operating system, web server, and netblock owner and more.
